My current body of work aims to find new ways of depicting the body, or more accurately, being a body; one that is subject to internal and external forces, desire, pain and pleasure. Forms and colors within the pieces conflict with one another pushing and pulling highlighting this conflict.
The inspiration for this has been my study of yoga. As my studies of yoga deeper, my awareness of my body, both positive and negative has expanded.
The show runs from November 5-26, with an opening reception on Friday, November 5, 6-9pm.

CT, Matthew Best, art, artist, artworks studio, first friday, monkey mind, norwich, painting, paintings Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 7:41AM I am in the midst of preparing for two shows this month, the first is ReModernist, (http://lasmanosgallery.blogspot.com/) in Chicago, IL at Las Manos Gallery. It is opening Friday, August 6. I have spent the last few days framing and boxing up the work, after it is shipped today it will be a great relief.
The second is in New Britian, CT outside of the Mayor's office in City Hall. I will have four paintings in this show (one of which is below). I don't know all the dates for the show yet, but there is talk of a closing reception in September. As I get more information I will update this entry. This will be the first time I have been in a show in my home state of Connecticut since 1999!

I'm donating these two paintings for the Art for AIDS benefit to take place at Hartford's Artspace Gallery on Saturday, June 19 at 7pm.
For only $50 guests will enjoy open bar (top shelf wine bar, tequila & Hint mixers), yummy food by Salute Restaurant, a live DJ, dancing, coffee bar, dessert, a raffle, an art show and an art grab where EVERYONE goes home with an original 12 x 12 original canvas.
Guests will literally pick their canvas choice off the wall to take home; the identity of the artist will remain unknown until the moment of selection. You might take home a piece of art from a well known, famous artist... The canvases are all wonderful!
Raffle items include: 2 ten class cards for West Hartford Yoga, Costa del Sol gift certificate, Miya's Sushi certificate, local dance classes, a case of Barefoot wine, and a 3 class card for Fuller movement.
Each of the canvases were created by working artists who understand and appreciate the importance of our mission to strive to ensure quality housing and supportive services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Connecticut and to promote effective HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention education. I'm so thankful to the contributing artists and hope you'll join me at this fabulous event! DONT WAIT TO SEE THE AFTER-PICTURES AND BE SORRY YOU MISSED IT!!!
